freeport, bahamas

We only spent one night in West End. The next day we headed over to Freeport for a couple days. Apparently Freeport is the hub for oil imports and exports. We passed a lot of huge oil tankers on our way.

The first time we had a Bahamian breakfast was sort of by accident in Nassau in 2011. We had been awake over 24 hours sailing from Bimini to Nassau with a bunch of boat problems. We were stressed, exhausted and starving. Charlie's was the only place open for breakfast, and we didn't know until we sat down that there weren't any eggs and pancakes at this place. That meal was amazing. We asked about Charlie's when we were back in Nassau in April, but sadly the restaurant closed during the pandamic and never reopened.

While we were in Freeport we asked some locals where the best place to get a traditional Bahamian breakfast was. Both of them recommended the same place, so we had to try it. It may not look the most appetizing, but trust me, it is delicious.

We were undecided if we would stay in Freeport for 1 night or 3 nights. We were fairly easily persuaded to stay 3 nights once we got there - the pool, the restaurant, the super friendly marina staff, the pig that Olivia named Boaralina. We probably could have been talked into staying longer, but it was time to get moving while the weather was nice.

It was a early Christmas Eve morning as we head off to the next chain of islands - The Berries.
