adios dominican republic

adios dominican republic

We celebrated Easter in the Dominican Republic with egg painting, an egg hunt, some great food and a visit from the Easter bunny.

The marina in Samana definitely lives up to all the hype we've heard over the years. We had a great couple weeks enjoying happy hours, making new friends, hanging out with old friends and spending hours by the pool, but we were definitely ready to get going.

You know you've been sitting too long when a bird has enough time to build a nest in your sail. She was very determined to lay her egg - with or without a nest. This is clearly a sign it is time to get moving.

Finally - we're off! Next stop Puerto Rico! 🇵🇷

The ocean between the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico is called the Mona Passage. If the weather is rough, going between the two countries can be dangerous. Lots of sailors have some anxiety about making this trip, including us. Braden studied the weather for weeks and finally we decided it was forecast to be calm enough for us to make the 24+ hour trip to Puerto Rico. He was right.

After an calm and uneventful night I was hoping to get a dolphin welcoming committee into Puerto Rico. Instead we got rain. Luckily no lightning or wind. Just lots and lots of rain.

I can't tell you how happy we are to be in Puerto Rico. Getting from the US to Puerto Rico is tough. Really tough. It is a long distance with several difficult passages and squirelly weather. Now that is all behind us!

The last time we were on anchor was February 13th. This is by far the most time we've spent in marina's ever. We forgot how great it is being anchored vs. a marina. Being in a marina is so convenient, but being on anchor is so much more relaxing.
